Meet the Nominees: Commercials

72nd Annual DGA Awards

On January 23, DGA members attended the 2020 edition of the Meet the Nominees: Commercials event in the Guild’s Los Angeles theater complex.

Following a welcome from DGA Director of Commercial Contracts Fabiana Ochoa, DGA Secretary-Treasurer Betty Thomas introduced a screening of the nominated commercials and the directors of those ads. Then the 2019 nominees for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials: Fredrik Bond (Lighter Than Air, HP Elite Dragonfly; Take it Lightly, Coca-Cola Light and Nap, iPhone); Spike Jonze (Dream It, Squarespace and The New Normal, Medmen); Mark Molloy (Underdogs, Apple); and Dougal Wilson (Train, AT&T) spoke about the making of their ads in a conversation moderated by Director/2016 nominee AG Rojas.

The event was followed by a reception where the nominees mingled with DGA members and guests. Ridley Scott (The Seven Worlds, Hennessy X.O.) was unable to attend the event.
