Meet the Nominees: Commercials

70th Annual DGA Awards

On February 1, DGA members attended the 2018 edition of the Meet the Nominees: Commercials symposium in the Guild’s Los Angeles theater complex.

After an introduction from DGA Eastern Executive Director Neil Dudich, DGA Sixth Vice-President Laura Belsey welcomed everyone to the event which began with a screening of clips from the nominated commercials. Then the 2017 nominees for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials: Martin de Thurah (Festival, StubHub; Machines, StubHub; Mad World, WealthSimple), Alma Har’el (Love Without Bias, P&G), Will Hoffman & Julius Metoyer aka Hoffman/Metoyer (Anthem, KitchenAid; Go Further, Ford), Miles Jay (Alive, Bose QuietComfort 35 Headphones; Calling JohnMalkovich.com, Squarespace; Who is JohnMalkovich.com?, Squarespace) and Isaiah Seret (Growing Up, Samsung Galaxy; I Love You, Samsung Great; Never Too Composed, Kohler) spoke about the making of their ads in a conversation moderated by 2016 DGA Lifetime Achievement in Television Award recipient Joe Pytka.

The symposium was followed by a reception where the nominees mingled with DGA members and guests.
