Reflecting the changing impact of the virus and in concert with sister unions SAG-AFTRA, IATSE, Teamsters and the Basic Crafts, the Guild continues to spearhead, develop and amend science-based protocols for production via the COVID-19 Safety Agreement and its extensions. Despite the pandemic, DGA inclusion report reveals continued incremental gains for Directors in 2020-21 television season and also issues a first-time inclusion report on Assistant Directors/Unit Production Managers in dramatic television. DGA Sixth Vice-President Lily Olszewski appointed Chair of the Guild’s Network Negotiating Committee and Director Brett Holey and Associate Director/DGA Assistant Secretary-Treasurer Joyce Thomas appointed Co-Chairs. Jane Campion wins DGA Theatrical Feature Film Award for The Power of the Dog and Spike Lee becomes the 36th Director to be recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Achievement in Motion Picture Direction.

King Vidor helped bring directors together to form the Guild and became its first president during the early, perilous years. His legacy as a great filmmaker and fighter for directors' rights continues today.
