A. Laura James is an award-winning filmmaker and television director. Laura began her career as an actor and transitioned into directing after working as both an on set acting coach sought after private coach. Her years of experience in theater and on sets have given her an extraordinary ability to create and shape a story, as a director and as a writer, which she attributes to years of improv and sketch comedy. Her insightful sense of storytelling and her love of actors give her an unparalleled edge in creating dynamic characters that are layered and grounded in truth whether she’s making absurd comedy or heart wrenching dramas.
Laura has participated in the CBS Director Program, the Disney Channel Multicamera 360 Program and she was also chosen to participate in the inaugural DGA Director Development Initiative.
Laura teaches directing at The American Film Institue and USC School of Cinematic Arts. She is an active DGA member currently serving as the Women's Steering Committee Director Category Representative as well as being the Coordinator for the WSC Communications and Publicity Committee.
