Western AD/SM/PA Council

The Western AD/SM/PA Council is the elected body that represents the nearly 1,000 Guild members who reside in the Western region and work in television as Associate Directors, Stage Managers or Production Associates. The Council is made up of 16 elected members and 10 alternate members from these categories.

This section provides the Guild's AD/SM/PA members in the Western region information that is specific to their categories; and the public with information about the activities of this council. Please click the "more" button for a welcome message from Council Chair Jerri Churchill. DGA Members, log in for meeting times and other Council information.

The Western AD/SM/PA Council is made of representatives from all areas of our category. It includes working members from Variety, Daytime Drama, Sports, News, Reality, as well as Associate Directors and Audience Switchers in Multi-Camera, and more.

The monthly meetings are attended by DGA Associate Western Executive Director, Lisa Layer and your field representatives. Their reports inform the Council and those attending about the sets and work places they have observed that month and of any issues or contract violations they might have addressed. There are also reports on negotiations with individual companies and shows and of conversations with non-signatories. By attending the meetings, members have an opportunity to share their issues with the DGA staff and the Council and report any of their own problems at their work place.

At the meetings we learn of special projects, new technologies and events being planned by the Guild. The meetings are also a great place to network and meet other members.

Four times a year, the Council receives reports from the National Board meetings where the larger issues that affect all members are discussed. Your AD/SM/PA National Board members attend these monthly meetings so you can meet with them and bring up any of your concerns and ideas.

The Council usually meets on the second Monday of the month, though some months it changes so please check the monthly DGA calendar. This year, I hope to have some meetings give special focus to specific areas and themes such as Variety, Daytime, Reality, News and Sports, Pension and Health and future areas of employment. After consulting with my colleagues, I will be putting together a calendar for the year on the best months for getting a good attendance in these areas. I hope to send it out by the end of the summer.

Only by attending our meetings can you speak on issues that affect you and those you work with. I urge you to attend when you can. I and all the members of this council are here to represent you so feel free to contact any of us with any questions or concerns.

I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.

Jerri Churchill,

AD/SM/PA Council West Chair

Just a word about the DGA PAC. As you know from letters your Council sent out last year, the DGA PAC has been recently been responsible in helping pass legislation to keep film and television production here in Los Angeles. Its presence in Washington is very important in protecting against piracy and in explaining this industry to Congress and its importance to a healthy middle class. That's us... That's the members of our category. Now what these politicians look at is numbers, so I am proposing that even if you can only afford $10, add that to your quarterly dues. By contributing your voice is heard as an interested voter, one who is likely to vote. Please consider this and contribute if you can.
