Los Angeles – Directors Guild of America President Paris Barclay made the following statement upon learning of the passing of Nancy Malone:
“Nancy Malone was a leader and activist at the Guild and a trailblazer in television. Committed to increasing opportunities for women directors, Nancy served for years in Guild leadership while actively directing dozens of series, TV movies and specials. She broke barriers throughout her career – one of the first women to move from in front of the camera to a lengthy career in the director’s chair. Her impact on television, on the Guild and on all directors will not be forgotten.”
DGA Service and Awards
Nancy Malone became a DGA member in 1984, one of only 300 female director members at the time, and worked steadily in television for the next two decades. Shortly after joining the Guild, she became active in Guild service, eventually serving on her first Negotiating Committee in 1987. Malone served four terms as a member or alternate on the Western Directors Council from 1995-2002, along with a second stint on the Negotiating Committee in 1999, and she was a National Board alternate for two years from 1997-1999. Malone also served on various Guild committees and was an active proponent of increasing opportunities for women in film and television.
