Los Angeles (Oct. 9, 2013) – The California Film and Television Production Alliance applauds the California State Assembly Revenue & Taxation Committee; Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media Committee; and particularly Chairmen Raul Bocanegra and Ian Calderon for coordinating today’s oversight hearing. Joined by Senator Ted Lieu, Assembly members Richard Bloom, Adrin Nazarian, and Cheryl R. Brown, the committees reviewed the strong and positive fiscal impact of the state’s film and television tax incentive program and encouraged vital public discussion about this crucial legislation.
We thank the chairs for their recognition of the need to address the limitations of the current program. We strongly share the commitment to build upon this successful incentive program that provides critical economic development opportunities to the state and its working people. As industry after industry flees California, working to enhance this incentive for in-state film and television productions is the smart move toward economic prosperity.
More than 100 years ago, a group of adventurous and entrepreneurial men and women came to this state, looked around at the many advantages California offered, and created what is now known to billions of people around the world as "Hollywood.”
Since that time, motion picture and television production has thrived in California even as the creative product of the entertainment industry reached the far corners of the globe – changing and enriching lives along the way. We are proud to be part of the film, television and creative media industry and we want to ensure that California remains the undisputed home of creative entertainment production in this century.
California created its film and television tax incentive program with a $100 million allocation in 2009 and has since experienced $4.75 billion in direct aggregate in-state production spending by 269 films and TV series. These productions have employed more than 50,000 cast and crewmembers and more than 400,000 background actors.
The Alliance fully supports the California film and television tax incentive program and is committed to working with the legislature to enhance it.

The California Film and Television Production Alliance is a coalition of guilds, unions, producers, and associations that have worked together for more than a decade to promote, improve, and enhance film and television production in the State of California by securing an incentive that will allow California to compete for the films and television shows that generate thousands of jobs and millions in revenue.
