LOS ANGELES, CA — Directors Guild of America President Michael Apted made the following statement on the passing of Director Anthony Minghella:
“It is with a heavy heart that I mourn the passing of my friend, Anthony Minghella.
“Anthony was a wonderful director and writer, and I truly admired his ability to take a world of epic proportions and make it intimate and personal. His films had grandeur and scale and big subject matter, yet there was always an emotion and an intimacy that served as the backbone of his work.
“Personally, he was always a nurturing and supportive person, and I particularly appreciated his long-standing interest in developing young talent. Anthony was too young himself for this unexpected loss and I will miss him dearly.”
