January 14, 1999

As part of a staff realignment designed to expand the Directors Guild of America's national membership services and contract enforcement capabilities, DGA National Executive Director Jay D. Roth today announced the promotion of DGA Assistant Executive Director Bryan Unger to the newly created position of Associate Western Executive Director. Unger assumes his new position effective immediately.

"This promotion will help us improve the Guild's services to our western region members in all categories, particularly in the area of contract enforcement," commented Roth. "As Assistant Executive Director, Bryan Unger has played a key role in reaching out to the next generation of DGA members by expanding the Guild's ties to the independent film community. In addition, he has greatly improved our communications with the Assistant Director-Unit Production Manager Council by working with them on many problems, including the crucial issue of runaway production."

After graduation from the New York University Film School, Unger worked in film and television production for several years before beginning his career as a labor executive at Local 15 of NABET. He then served five years as an International Representative with the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees (IATSE) in New York before relocating to Los Angeles in 1994 to begin his career at the DGA.

Following the recent appointment of Warren Adler to the post of Associate National Executive Director, Unger's promotion is another step in the DGA's process of providing expanded membership service at the national and international level by strengthening the Guild's national management team.
