Episodic Directors Attend Orientation Courses on Professional Standards

In 2017, the DGA held its inaugural Orientation Course on Professional Standards for Episodic Television Directors.  The orientation was codified in the 2017 Basic Agreement to support first-time episodic television directors by providing training for them on the role, responsibilities and obligations of Directors. Since the launch of the program in July of 2017, the Guild has conducted these courses online and at Guild Headquarters in Los Angeles and New York.

In each course, the participants also learned about the standards of the craft, their creative rights as directors, the Guild resources that are available to them, and are instructed about the best practices of some of the top directors working today in order to provide them with an outline of a comprehensive set of requirements needed to succeed.

On May 17, 2025, the DGA Orientation Course for Episodic Television Directors held another online session. Directors Maggie Kiley, Eric Stoltz and Anu Valia provided training for the attending first-time episodic television Directors on their role, responsibilities and obligations.
On December 7, 2024, the DGA Orientation Course for Episodic Television Directors held another online session. Directors Bethany Rooney, Hanelle Culpepper and Satya Bhabha provided training for the attending first-time episodic television Directors on their role, responsibilities and obligations.
On November 2, 2024, the DGA Orientation Course for Episodic Television Directors held another session in Los Angeles. Directors Mary Lou Belli, SJ Main Muñoz and Valerie Weiss provided training for the attending first-time episodic television Directors on their role, responsibilities and obligations.
On September 21, 2024, the DGA Orientation Course for Episodic Television Directors held another session in Los Angeles. DGA Past President/Current Secretary-Treasurer Paris Barclay and Directors Michael Spiller and Andy Wolk provided training for the attending first-time episodic television Directors on their role, responsibilities and obligations.
