The latest information about the Directors Guild of America.

At its most recent meeting, the DGA National Board voted to name Director Jon Avnet as Chair and Director Karen Gaviola as Vice Chair of the BA/FLTTA Negotiations Committee.

Recently, we have been working in Sacramento and Albany, pushing for expanded tax credit programs in California and New York to keep two of the country’s important production hubs competitive in the global landscape, as well as in Washington, DC to develop policy proposals aimed at incentivizing the onshoring of film and television production in the United States.

On Tuesday, January 21, the MPTF hosted a webinar that featured guidance on how to navigate insurance claims, financial planning & tax considerations, accessing industry-related support, and more. Click through for video of that event.

A DGA and Atlanta Coordinating Committee Event

The DGA membership meeting in Atlanta, GA provided an opportunity for members to network with their peers, meet staff and hear what the Guild is doing to protect and extend their creative and economic rights.

The DGA announced the nominees in nine categories honoring outstanding directorial achievement in television, commercials and documentary for 2024.

DGA President Lesli Linka Glatter announced the five nominees for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film for 2024 Jacques Audiard (Emilia Pérez), Sean Baker (Anora), Edward Berger (Conclave), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist) and James Mangold (A Complete Unknown). The nominees for the Michael Apted Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in First-Time Theatrical Feature Film were also announced.

Lee becomes the 37th Director to be recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The prestigious honor will be presented at the 77th Annual DGA Awards.

DGA President Lesli Linka Glatter announced that Unit Production Managers Mary Rae Thewlis and Thomas J. Whelan will be honored for decades of DGA service and career achievement.

In preparation for the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election, DGA members were active participants in critical events broadcast only once every four years to inform the electorate. As part of the Guild’s ongoing efforts to elevate the importance of safety in your workplaces, the 2023-2026 Basic Agreement (BA) and Freelance Live and Tape Television Agreement (FLTTA) include requirements for DGA employees to complete additional training courses.

On September 30, Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB 422 — a new law that protects the use of loan-out companies by entertainment workers in California, ensuring their continued function in the industry.The bill was supported by the work of the DGA in coalition with our partners in the Entertainment Union Coalition and the California State Federation of Labor.

A DGA Informational Primer

As part of the DGA’s ongoing efforts to educate members on recent contract gains, in this installment we highlight an episodic Director’s creative rights when it comes to electronic transmissions.

The new DGA minimum salary schedules for Directors, Unit Production Managers, Assistant Directors, Associate Directors, and Stage Managers are now online. Rates are good for July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025.

Through this eight-month program, DGA members who aspire to be episodic television Directors (protégés) are matched with experienced episodic television Directors (mentors).

Members: We are pleased to inform you that the DGA has achieved several new material enhancements in wages and working conditions for our members working under the 2023-2026 DGA Basic Agreement and FLTTA. These improvements will go into effect at various points during the term of the Agreements and will benefit members in every category.
