An autistic forensic accountant applies his brilliant mind and less-than-legal methods to reconstruct the unsolved puzzle of a Treasury chief’s murder in Director Gavin O’Connor’s action thriller, The Accountant 2.

In the follow-up to his 2016 feature The Accountant, O’Connor’s new film finds Christian Wolff teaming up with his estranged but highly lethal brother Braxton to track down mysterious assassins and piece together an unsolved puzzle. But as they get closer to the truth, some of the most ruthless killers alive are intent on putting a stop to their search.

On April 19, after the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles, O’Connor discussed the making of The Accountant 2 during a Q&A moderated by Director Dan Gilroy (Velvet Buzzsaw).

During the conversation, O’Connor spoke about his editing process.

“What was difficult was walking the tightrope of tone. With The Way Back, I had such a hard time cutting that film because it’s not plotless, but it was a very simple plot. I was always veering off the plot and just pushing character and doing things, so it was a little trickier. With this film, you’re just following the plot so that’s easy editorially. But it’s all the interstitial stuff, the character moments... What I always do is I just create bins. I look at every frame of everything I shot and then I create bins of moments and moments and moments and moments. And I’m always looking for the magic. So, while Rick [Pearson] is cutting on this film, I’m in another room with my bins.”

O’Connor’s other directorial credits include the feature films The Way Back, Jane Got a Gun, Warrior and Pride and Glory; the movies for television The Prince, Only Human and Murphy’s Dozen; and episodes of Seven Seconds and The Americans.

O’Connor has been a DGA member since 2001.
