On May 22, the Latino Committee (LC) meeting featured the discussion, A Conversation with Director Gandja Monteiro. During the discussion moderated by Alternate Co-Chair, Director Alejandro Brugués, Monteiro reflected on her career journey and shared how her bicultural upbringing and passion for art informs her work as a Director.
Monteiro highlighted her experiences directing across various mediums, such as music videos, fashion films, and commercials, and offered tips for transitioning to directing for feature films and television. Drawing on her experiences in television directing, she said, “getting the first show is hard…and the second show is even harder.” But she emphasized the importance of Directors trusting their journey and trusting their process.
Monteiro's directorial credits include episodes of Vida, In the Dark, Panic, The Chi, Wednesday, The Witcher, The Walking Dead: Dead City; and the mini-series Brand New Cherry Flavor. She has been a DGA member since 2018.
