On February 20, the Latino Committee (LC) meeting featured the discussion, Lessons from the Floor: A Conversation with Director and Former AD Ruben Trujillo Garcia. During the discussion moderated by LC Alternate Co-Chair, Director Alejandro Brugués (Satanic Hispanics),

During the conversation — illustrating his ethos of perseverance — Garcia detailed his journey from his start as a Production Assistant with a dream of directing, to joining the DGA and eventually moving into the Director's chair. He emphasized the importance of storytelling, preparation and collaboration with crew members in order to harness collective creativity. Highlighting the necessity of clear communication Garcia said, “Don't ever let information die with you. Ask yourself ‘Who else needs to know this?’”

Garcia’s directorial credits include episodes of The Blacklist, Power Book II: Ghost, CSI: Vegas, SEAL Team, Nancy Drew, NCIS: Hawai'i, L.A.'s Finest, Empire and Shameless. His previous Assistant Directing credits include episodes of Mayans M.C., Animal Kingdom, Salem, Suburgatory, The Cleaner, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Riches and Monk. He has been a DGA member since 2001 and has served as a member of the Western AD/UPM Council.

The Latino Committee was created as a networking group to advance career and job opportunities for Latino DGA members by improving craft skills, networking, and making Latinos better known to the Hollywood creative community.
