On April 29, Second Assistant Directors from the Eastern region came together for a half day of conversation and exploration when the Eastern AD/UPM Council’s Second AD Committee hosted their 10th annual Second AD Tea in the Guild’s New York offices. Under the title I Don’t Know What I Don’t Know, the event provided an opportunity for members of this category to discuss current topics that affect the 2nd AD community.
Following a welcome from 2nd AD Committee Co-Chair Anastasia Folorunso, she, Co-Chair Steven Lafferty and DGA Field Representative Tara Borth outlined how the day would proceed. The attendees then separated into breakout rooms for roundtable discussions.
The Staffing breakout was moderated by 2nd ADs Peter Donohue and Nicole Payson and covered topics such as how to build and train a staff and techniques to uplift and lead others. The Know Your Contract discussion was moderated by Committee Co-Chair Lafferty and 2nd AD Lisa Burrascano and explored the rights and responsibilities inherent in contracts, as well as practical items such as travel, per diem, housing and more. Committee Co-Chair Folorunso and 2nd ADs Joy Kim and Jason Messeri moderated the Self-Care discussions that shared tips how to take care of oneself both on the job and off.
The event concluded with the breakout groups reassembling for a wrap-up session general discussion and closing remarks by Lafferty.
About the Committee
The Eastern AD/UPM Council Second Assistant Directors Committee addresses issues that concern the members of this category and encourages dialogue amongst members in an effort to bring awareness, devise solutions to problems and continue education and growth.
