Director Dean Craig discusses The Estate

November 11, 2022 A DGA Membership Screening Q&A in Los Angeles

Two sisters band together in hopes of receiving an inheritance in Director Dean Craig’s comedy, The Estate.

Craig’s film finds them pitted against the greedy other members of their extended family in a battle to win over their terminally ill, difficult-to-please aunt in hopes of becoming the beneficiaries of her wealth.

On November 11, after the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles, Craig discussed the making of The Estate during a Q&A moderated by Director Alex Grossman (45th Parallel).

During the conversation, Craig spoke about the importance of creating a collaborative atmosphere.

“You have to please yourself and have to be pleased with it and there will be times when no one is pleased with it. At the same time, it is important to hear other people's ideas and suggestions. You never know what someone has to say or could add to what you have. I am someone who is open to ideas — whoever they come from. Then, it's ultimately to me as the Director to decide whether we ultimately use it or try it. But I never have a problem with hearing other people's ideas. Input and ideas are always great.”

Craig’s other directorial credits include the feature film, Love Wedding Repeat and the upcoming feature, The Honeymoon.  He became a DGA member in 2022.
