#LIKE: DIY from Kickstarter to Self-Distribution with Director Sarah Pirozek

June 30, 2021 A Focus on Women Committee Virtual Event

On June 30, the Focus on Women Committee (FOWC) meeting meeting was preceded by a special discussion, #LIKE: DIY from Kickstarter to Self-Distribution with Director Sarah Pirozek.

In a conversation moderated by FOWC Co-Chair Maggie Greenwald, Pirozek discussed the step-by-step process she took to make her movie, #Like. She also revealed how she self-funded and crowd-sourced her budget, how she found her cast and crew including her lead actors Marc Menchaca and Sarah Rich, how she worked with her editor Matt Yaple, and lastly, how she decided which distributor would be best for the film. Afterwards she took questions from the audience.

Pirozek’s directorial credits also include the movie for television Sade; the documentary feature Free Tibet; episodes of the series Sonic Cinema, MTV Fake ID Club and World’s Apart; and the short film The A-Z of Being a Whore.

Pirozek has been a  DGA member since 1998.

About the Committee:

Originally a sub-committee of the Eastern Directors Council, in 2020 the Focus on Women Committee (FOWC) was designated an official and permanent committee of the DGA National Board for women members residing in the Eastern Region. The Committee would like to remind members that while their events are designed with a special focus on women directors, all DGA members are welcome to attend.
