Two American upstarts challenge car racing royalty in Director James Mangold’s new biographical drama, Ford v Ferrari.
Mangold’s film tells the story of American car designer Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and driver Ken Miles (Christian Bale) who battled corporate interference, the laws of physics and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford and challenge Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966.
Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on November 17, Mangold sat down with Director Drew Goddard (Bad Times at the El Royale) to discuss the making of Ford v Ferrari. He also discussed the film in a conversation moderated by Director Doug Liman (American Made) following the DGA membership screening in New York on November 10.
In addition to Ford v Ferrari, Mangold’s credits include the feature films Logan, The Wolverine, Knight and Day, 3:10 to Yuma, Walk the Line, Kate & Leopold, Cop Land and Girl, Interrupted; and the pilots for the series Vegas and Men in Trees. Mangold won a Special Jury Recognition and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize for his 1995 feature Heavy at the Sundance Film Festival. He has been a DGA member since 1985.
