An attorney fights to save his unjustly condemned client in Director Destin Daniel Cretton’s new drama, Just Mercy.
Based on a true story, Cretton’s film follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson’s (Michael B. Jordan) efforts to overturn the murder conviction of Walter McMillian (Jamie Foxx), who was sentenced to die for the murder of an 18-year-old girl despite a preponderance of evidence proving his innocence.
Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on December 15, Cretton sat down with Director Anna Boden (Captain Marvel) to discuss the making of Just Mercy.
In addition to Just Mercy, Cretton’s directorial credits include the feature films The Glass Castle, Short Term 12 and I Am Not a Hipster; the documentaries Drakmar: A Vassal’s Journey and Born Without Arms; and the television series Scenes for Minors. Cretton became a DGA member in 2016.
