Director Gavin Hood discusses Official Secrets

September 8, 2019 A DGA Q&A in Los Angeles

A British whistleblower risks everything to stop an unjust war in Director Gavin Hood’s new biographical-drama, Official Secrets.

Based on true events, Hood’s film tells the story of Katharine Gun (Keira Knightley), a British intelligence specialist who put herself and her family in harm’s way after she leaked information to the press about an illegal NSA spy operation designed to collect compromising information on United Nations Security Council members and blackmail them into sanctioning the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on September 8, Hood sat down with Director Phillip Noyce (Above Suspicion) to discuss the making of Official Secrets.

In addition to Official Secrets, Hood’s credits include the feature films A Reasonable Man, Tsotsi, Rendition, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Ender's Game and Eye in the Sky; the movie for television Tough Trade and the pilot and episodes of Breakout Kings. Hood has been a member of the DGA since 2006.
