2019 Film Independent Brunch

DGA Reaches out to Independent Directors at 2019 Film Independent Brunch

August 22, 2019

On August 22, the DGA hosted a brunch for directors involved in the various fellowship programs of Film Independent, a non-profit arts organization that champions creative independence in visual storytelling and supports a community of artists who embody diversity, innovation and uniqueness of vision.

Following a welcome from Film Independent’s Senior Director of Development Kate Walker D’Angelo and its Director of Artist Development Jennifer Kushner, DGA Director-member Victor Levin (Destination Wedding) spoke on behalf of the Guild and explained how easy it is for filmmakers to work with its contracts. DGA Senior Manager of Special Events & Independent Organizing Matt Gamarra provided the attendees with additional information about Guild membership and DGA Assistant Executive Director Mayra Ocampo was also on hand to answer questions.

About Film Independent

Founded in 1981, when Director Gregory Nava and a small band of directors, writers and producers began gathering regularly to share creative ideas and discuss ways to increase resources for independent filmmakers, Film Independent (formerly IFP West) produces the Film Independent Spirit Awards and artist development programs. The luncheon attendees were from Film Independent’s Directing Lab, Documentary Lab, Fast Track and Project Involve. The DGA has been a longtime Film Independent supporter and was a sponsor of the organization’s LA Film Festival for 24 years.
