Director Lorene Scafaria discusses Hustlers

September 15, 2019 DGA Q&As in Los Angeles and New York

A savvy group of strippers band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients in Director Lorene Scafaria’s new comedic crime-drama, Hustlers.

Inspired by a New York Magazine article, Scafaria’s film tells the true story of a group of women who work at a strip club frequented by wealthy Wall Street clientele. But when the 2008 economic collapse cuts into their livelihoods, the women devise a daring scheme to take their lives back.

Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on September 15, Scafaria sat down with Director Adam McKay (Vice) to discuss the making of Hustlers. She also discussed the film in a conversation moderated by Director Bo Burnham (Eighth Grade) following the DGA membership screening in New York on September 12.

In addition to Hustlers, Scafaria’s credits include the feature films The Meddler and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World; the movies for television This Is Heaven and Love Is Dead; and episodes of New Girl. She has been a DGA member since 2013.
