Four disparate and desperate women join forces to pull off a caper in Director Steve McQueen’s new crime drama, Widows.
Based upon the 1983 British series of the same name, McQueen’s film tells the story of Veronica (Viola Davis), Alice (Elizabeth Debicki), Linda (Michelle Rodriguez) and Belle (Cynthia Erivo), four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their spouses who were killed during a botched armed robbery attempt in Chicago. After learning that they now owe the money to a crime boss, the widows take fate into their own hands and attempt their own heist in order to forge their own futures.
Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on November 14, McQueen sat down with Director Lee Daniels (Star) to discuss the making of Widows. He had previously discussed the film in a conversation moderated by Director Dee Rees (Mudbound) after the DGA membership screening in New York on November 10.
In addition to Widows, McQueen’s credits include the feature films Shame and Hunger; and the short films Static, Deadpan, Exodus and Bear. His 2013 feature 12 Years a Slave garnered McQueen both DGA and Academy Award nominations for directorial achievement and won the Oscar for “Best Picture.” McQueen has been a DGA member since 2012.
