Director Edward Norton discusses Motherless Brooklyn

A private detective tries to solve the murder of his only friend in Director Edward Norton’s new film noir, Motherless Brooklyn.

Norton’s film uses the backdrop of 1950s New York to set the stage for the story of Lionel Essrog (also played by Norton), a lonely private detective afflicted with Tourette's Syndrome. Essrog's affliction may turn out to be his only advantage as he seeks to solve the murder of his mentor and only friend, Frank Minna (Bruce Willis), and in doing so unearths secrets that hold the fate of the whole city in the balance.

Following the DGA membership screening in New York on November 6, Norton sat down with Director Bennett Miller (Foxcatcher) to discuss the making of Motherless Brooklyn. He also spoke about the film in a conversation moderated by Director Mike Binder (Black or White) after the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on November 10.

In addition to Motherless Brooklyn, Norton’s other directorial credit is the feature, Keeping the Faith. He has been a DGA member since 1999.
