Director Rob Reiner discusses Shock and Awe

August 5, 2018 A DGA Q&A in Los Angeles

The true story of the reporters who doubted the Government’s claims during the lead-up to the 2003 Iraq War is told in Director Rob Reiner’s new historical drama, Shock and Awe.

Reiner’s film takes us back to the time after 9/11 when the Bush-Cheney administration claimed that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, during their push to ramp up support for the invasion of Iraq. However, journalists at the Knight-Ridder news agency were skeptical of the evidence and stayed in pursuit of the real story while their colleagues mistakenly fed the American people news based on faulty and fabricated intelligence.

Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on August 5, Reiner sat down with Jeremy Kagan (Shot) to discuss the making of Shock and Awe.

In addition to Shock and Awe, Reiner’s credits include the feature films This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, Misery, Ghosts of Mississippi, The Story of Us, The Bucket List, The Magic of Belle Isle, Being Charlie and LBJ; and the movies for television Sonny Boy, Likely Stories, Vol. 1 and Everyday Life. He is a three-time nominee for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for Stand by Me (1986), When Harry Met Sally... (1989) and A Few Good Men (1992). Reiner has been a DGA member since 1974.
