Director Tamara Jenkins discusses Private Life

Director Tamara Jenkins discusses Private Life

September 22, 2018 DGA Q&As in New York and Los Angeles

A couple’s attempts to get pregnant ultimately causes a strain on their marriage in Director Tamara Jenkins’s new feature, Private Life.

Jenkins’ film tells the story of Rachel (Kathryn Hahn) and Richard (Paul Giamatti), an infertile couple undergoing multiple therapies to have a baby. But the process of trying to add to their family challenges their relationship with each other as they descend deeper and deeper into the world of assisted reproduction and domestic adoption.

Following the DGA membership screening in New York on September 16, Jenkins sat down with Director Sofia Coppola (The Beguiled) to discuss the making of Private Life. Jenkins also discussed the film in a conversation moderated by Director Mike White (Enlightened) following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on September 22.

In addition to Private Life, Jenkins’s credits include the feature films The Savages and Slums of Beverly Hills. She has been a DGA member since 2017.
