A father struggles to save his teenage son from addiction in Director Felix Van Groeningen’s new biographical drama, Beautiful Boy.
Based on the best-selling pair of memoirs from father and son David and Nicolas Sheff, Van Groeningen’s film chronicles the heartbreaking story of how Nic's (Timothée Chalamet) journey from ideal pupil and son to meth addict threatened to destroy him, and how his desperate father David (Steve Carell) did whatever he could to save his son and his family.
Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on October 7, Van Groeningen sat down with Director Mike Mills (20th Century Women) to discuss the making of Beautiful Boy.
In addition to Beautiful Boy, Van Groeningen’s credits include the feature films Belgica, The Broken Circle Breakdown, The Misfortunates, With Friends Like These and Steve + Sky. Van Groeningen has been a DGA member since 2017.
