Director Aaron Sorkin discusses Molly’s Game

The amazing true story of the young woman who ran the world's most exclusive high-stakes poker game and became a target of the FBI is brought to the screen in Director Aaron Sorkin’s new drama, Molly’s Game.

Based upon the memoir, Molly's Game: From Hollywood's Elite to Wall Street's Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker by Molly Bloom, Sorkin’s film reveals how Bloom (Jessica Chastain) went from Olympic-class skier to running the world's most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a client list that included Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans — and unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob â€” for a decade before being arrested by the FBI. In the midst of her troubles, her only ally was her criminal defense lawyer Charlie Jaffey (Idris Elba), who discovers there is much more to Molly than meets the eye.

Following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on November 12, Sorkin sat down with Director John Gatins (Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story) to discuss the making of Molly’s Game. Sorkin also discussed the film in a conversation moderated by Director Lee Daniels (Empire) following the DGA membership screening in New York on November 18.

Molly’s Game is Sorkin’s directorial debut. He was part of the producing team (which includes DGA President Thomas Schlamme) that won multiple Emmy awards for “Outstanding Drama Series” for their work on the series The West Wing. Sorkin also took home an Academy Award for “Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay” for David Fincher’s feature The Social Network. He has been a DGA member since 2016.
