What does one do when the “American Dream” threatens to transform into an “American nightmare?” This question frames the setting for Director Sam Kadi’s dramatic debut feature, The Citizen.
In the film, a Lebanese Green Card Lottery winner faces more than he bargained for after arriving in New York City only one day before the terrorist attacks of 9/11 changed the world of which he’d hoped to become a part.
Kadi discussed the challenges of making a film with such a delicate subject matter with Director Robert B. Weide (Woody Allen: A Documentary) after the DGA screening in Los Angeles on October 10 and Director Laura Belsey (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) following the New York screening on October 12.
In addition to The Citizen, Kadi’s other works include the short films Raised Alone and Schizophrenia. He has been a DGA member since 2011.
