A star athlete in high school, Smith was awarded the first-ever women’s volleyball scholarship to Temple University in 1976, an institution she chose for their outstanding school of communications. As a senior, Smith scored an internship with the Philadelphia Phillies baseball station, WPHL-17 TV, and when her boss started his own remote broadcast firm, he invited her to join. Later, having assumed a position at a Philadelphia station, she found herself at the right place and right time when CBS Sports, needing to fill airtime during the 1982 NFL strike, came to Atlantic City, N.J., to cover boxing. “I met [producer] David Dinkins Jr. and he urged me to come to New York to interview. Thirty years later, I’m still at CBS,” she laughs.
Smith is a Director and Producer for CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network and has been with CBS since 1983. A trailblazer in the industry since her start, she has worked on everything from Super Bowls to The Masters golf tournaments. Smith also served as the Director for CBS Sports and Nickelodeon’s groundbreaking, Emmy Award-winning NFL Wild Card game.
She has been a DGA member since 1986.
