A Brooklyn native, Scott Berger initially pursued the path of a doctor but after taking a television production class, found himself drawn into the world of communications. Landing a job as a page at CBS during school, and then later as a Production Assistant, Berger would work his way up from the ground level at the major television network. His next step came when Berger volunteered to work as a Stage Manager during an understaffed holiday season and ended up with a permanent position in the role. Stage Managing opened the door to a move into network broadcasts, where in addition to news, he worked a variety of sporting events and political conventions. However, looking for a change of course, Berger transitioned to associate directing in 2004 on the CBS Evening News. This path would guide him on a storied career eventually leading into the role of Senior Associate Director.
Despite having a prolific and busy career, Berger found the time to dedicate much of himself to his Guild. Stanley Faer was the catalyst of his service, who invited him as a PA to attend an Eastern AD/SM/PA Council meeting in 1989, where he was elected to be an alternate at his first meeting. He has continued to participate in the council ever since. He has also long been involved in the Directors Guild Foundation; has served on 7 Network Negotiation Committee cycles, three of them as co-chair; and 14 terms on the DGA National Board, 11 of which he served as the Assistant Secretary-Treasurer. In 2009 he was awarded the Franklin J. Schaffner Award in recognition of his work in the industry and the Guild.
He has been a member of the Guild since 1982.
