Initially pursuing the path of a documentarian, Nora Gerard shifted directions after securing an internship at WCAU in Philadelphia, a CBS affiliate. It was there that she fell in love with live broadcast television. After graduation and with the help of Jimmy Hirschfeld, Gerard moved to New York City and began her career at CBS, holding a series of production and managerial jobs that led to the role of Associate Director on the CBS Morning News. She juggled further assignments on the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, the CBS Weekend News and many magazine shows, including the original 48 Hours. Gerard also directed prime time shows Verdict with Connie Chung and Street Stories with Ed Bradley. She would eventually assume directorship of CBS News Sunday Morning, which she would helm for 11 years until retirement.
She has been nominated for many DGA and Daytime Emmy awards for the direction of CBS News Sunday Morning. She has served two terms as an alternate on the DGA National Board, and is currently serving her 7th term as an alternate on the Eastern Directors Council. She has also been part of three Network Negotiation Committees and is currently the alternate co-chair of the Focus On Women Committee.
She has been a member of the Guild since 1981.
