Born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey, Ed Bianchi cultivated an interest in the arts from a young age through his love of drawing. His talent for illustration eventually led him to a job at Young & Rubicam where he worked as an Art Director. After excelling in that position, he received his first directing assignment with a commercial for Eastern Air Lines, eventually establishing his own production company, Bianchi Films.
After building hundreds of credits in the commercial space, Bianchi transitioned to the feature world with The Fan (1981), starring Lauren Bacall and James Garner. He then segued into a 20-year episodic television career with credits including: Homicide: Life on the Street, Law & Order: LA, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Brotherhood, The Killing, Deadwood, Men of a Certain Age, Damages, The Wire, The Get Down, Billions and Get Shorty.
Bianchi’s commercial work has received a DGA Award nomination in the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials category for “Forward Pass,” Diet Pepsi, “Gauntlet,” National Institute of Drug Abuse, “Jump,” Bounce and “Young Lawyers” for American Express. He has been a DGA member for over 45 years and was an Eastern Directors Council member from 2002-2004 and alternate from 2016-2018.
