Bob Balaban is an actor and director for film and television. His directorial debut was the 1983 movie for television The Brass Ring. It was followed by Invisible Thread (1987) and the feature films Parents (1989), My Boyfriend's Back (1993), and The Last Good Time (1994), which won top prizes at the Avignon and Hampton Film Festivals and earned a nomination for Grand Special Prize at the Deauville Festival.
Balaban has also directed episodes of several notable television series such as Oz, Strangers With Candy, and most recently, Nurse Jackie. For his directorial work on the movie for television Bernard and Doris (2006), he was nominated for a DGA Award, an Emmy and a Golden Globe. The movie for television Georgia O’Keeffe (2009), also garnered him a DGA Award nomination and an Emmy nomination for directing. For his work as an actor and producer of Gosford Park (2001) directed by Robert Altman, Balaban shared a SAG Award with the acting ensemble, a BAFTA Award for Best British Film, and an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.
