Auerbach’s
introduction to television directing came with the 1951 children’s show, Mr. Wizard. The same year he went on to
work on the daytime drama Love of Life,
which ran for 28 years and for which he was the primary director. Other
successes in daytime drama followed, with long-running shows like Another World, One Life to Live and All My
Children.
For his work as a director, Larry Auerbach has received
eight Daytime Emmy nominations for Love
of Life and All My Children and
an Emmy for One Life to Live. He has
been a member of the DGA National Board for many years, served as National Vice
President from 1987 to 1989, and variously as 2nd, 4th, and 6th Vice President
of the Guild for eight terms. He also served on several negotiating committees,
and has been a member of the Eastern Directors Council, where he serves in an
ex-officio capacity. He has also been a Trustee of the DGA-Producer Pension and
Health plan, serving three times as Chairman. In 1991, he was awarded the DGA’s
Robert B. Aldrich Award for his service to the Guild and received the DGA’s
Honorary Life Member Award in 2004 in recognition of his contributions to the
Guild and the profession of directing.
