Amiel is also an accomplished television director, starting his career at the BBC in 1970s. He has directed episodes of such series as The Tudors (2008) and The Borgias (2012). For his directorial efforts he was nominated for a BAFTA TV award in 1987 for an episode of the BBC series The Singing Detective.
