On Tuesday, January 24, 2011, the Guild held its annual symposium for the DGA Award Nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Reality Programs. Following introductory comments made by DGA President Taylor Hackford, Reality Committee Co-chair Bryan O’Donnell, and a screening of clips from the nominated works, nominees Neil P. DeGroot (The Biggest Loser, “Episode #1115”), J. Rupert Thompson (Fear Factor 2.0., “Scorpion Tales), and Bertram van Munster (The Amazing Race, “You Don’t Get Paid Unless You Win.”) engaged in a brief discussion about their work.
Nominees Eytan Keller (The Next Iron Chef: Superchefs, “Episode 401”) and Brian Smith (Master Chef, “Episode 201”) were unable to attend.
