Adopted as a young foundling, a man sets out to reclaim his past in Director Garth Davis’ new drama, Lion.
Davis’ film tells the story of Saroo, a five-year old boy who gets lost on a train that takes him thousands of miles away from his home and family in India. He survives the streets alone in Calcutta, until he is ultimately adopted by an Australian couple. Twenty-five years later, haunted by the vague memories of the family he left behind, he sets out to finally find them.
Davis sat down with Director James Ponsoldt (The End of the Tour), to discuss the making of Lion following the DGA membership screening in Los Angeles on December 9.
In addition to Lion, Davis’ credits include the documentary P.I.N.S.; and episodes of the television series Top of the Lake and Love My Way. In 2009, Davis was nominated for the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement Commercials for his U.S. Cellular spot “Shadow Puppets.” He has been a DGA member since 2007.
